Mchengerwa orders a proper use of the ambulance he handed over to Kibiti Council

KIBITI: THE Minister for Health Mohamed Mchengerwa has stressed the importance of ensuring that ambulances are used for their intended purposes, properly maintained and kept operational at all times to strengthen emergency medical services and save lives.

Mchengerwa made the remarks during a handover ceremony for an ambulance to Kibiti District in Pwani Region, saying the availability of an ambulance alone was not enough unless the vehicle remained operational, was equipped with essential medical supplies and was operated by trained personnel.

He said emergency services require round-the-clock preparedness because even a few minutes of delay can make the difference between life and death.

According to the minister, ambulances must be ready to reach patients and accident victims in time, including pregnant women requiring emergency care, children, road accident victims and patients with conditions requiring urgent medical attention.

Mchengerwa stressed that every patient requiring emergency care deserves to be treated professionally and without discrimination. He urged members of the public to report any misuse of the ambulance or delays in emergency services.

The minister also urged motorcycle riders to observe road safety laws and regulations, particularly the use of helmets, saying such measures are essential in reducing preventable accidents and protecting lives as well as the country’s workforce.

Mchengerwa said cooperation among the public, healthcare providers and the government is critical to ensuring that the ambulance is properly maintained and used efficiently, patients are reached in time, and emergency services are delivered safely, professionally and with respect for patients’ dignity.
